Founded in Boston, Groupmuse is a social network that directly connects classical musicians, audience members, and non-traditional venues. By non-traditional venues we mean people’s living rooms. Using such a tool, the local community can organically generate its own classical music events, or Groupmuses, as we call them, that actively reflect the component members involved, and not simply the large institutions that have been defining the social scene surrounding classical music for so long. By building a new classical culture around small scale, flexible events that are equal parts social and musical, we are turning the social culture of the classical music world from an alienating liability into its most inviting asset!
While the ultimate goal is to create a self-sustaining system whereby musicians get in touch with hosts, and together, they arrange concerts and invite culture-seeking members of their community, in this early stage, Groupmuse will have an active hand in organizing and planning the first series of happenings. As such, we are always looking for willing hosts, and if that is you, please send us an email and we’ll take care of everything! It will be fun!
