Foreplay is Agora’s on going performance series. The primary intention of Foreplay is to create proximity between the audience and the work of the performer/choreographer.
Foreplay performances are preceded by a carefully prepared dinner situation designed collaboratively by the guest artist and one of Agora Food’s chefs (Agora’s new food platform, that supports 7 chefs in residency). This food experience is the opportunity for the artist to approach his/her work in a new format, re-articulating it into the language of taste, texture and dynamics.
On July 19th Isabel Lewis will host an occasion that conjures the ancient Greek symposium, where philosophizing, drinking and the erotic were inseparable. It a celebratory meeting of things, people, plants, music, food, and dances. Lewis is the host, and also an orator, impostor, DJ and dancer.
Isabel Lewis (1981, receives her mail in Berlin) is an artist of Dominican and American origin. She grew up on suburban island off the coast of southwest Florida. Isabel used to live in New York City where she danced for many choreographers and has as well shown her own commissioned works from 2004 on at The Kitchen, Dance Theater Workshop, New Museum and Movement Research at Judson Church amongst others. In 2009 she quit reading things and making things and moved to Berlin. She spent the next two years being in love and working as an editor and a DJ. After some time she began working on a collection of notes that would become her solo show entitled STRANGE ACTION. She also started reading again. Isabel draws from her training in literary criticism, dance, and choreography as well as from party and popular culture.
For this Foreplay evening, Isabel will collaborate with our dear chef Tara Baird, together, they will bring Isabel’s world into a specially designed menu. You might know Tara from Mondays in Agora, when she treats your soul with her delicious vegan exquisite dishes. This encounter will for sure be promising.
We ask for a 13 euros fee for the food that will be served.
